SENIOR COUNSEL
Rich is a patent attorney and intellectual property (IP) litigator having extensive experience in handling disputes involving all types of IP rights, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
Rich has litigated over 150 IP cases, including more than 100 patent disputes involving technologies such as industrial & oilfield equipment, cellular and wireless communications protocols, electronic commerce and payment systems, video encoding and streaming, distributed computing, semiconductor design and fabrication, and many others. He also regularly counsels clients on the protection of IP rights while minimizing the risk of impacting other parties’ rights.
In his practice, Rich represents both IP owners and parties that have been accused of violating the IP rights of others. Although he has litigated cases in district courts across the country and before administrative agencies including the U.S. International Trade Commission and U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, he regularly appears in IP cases throughout Texas, including the federal courts for the Eastern, Western, Northern, and Southern Districts of Texas.
Rich takes an analytical approach to his legal work, much like he did while working in the defense industry as an engineer before attending law school. In that role, Rich was a team lead in the preliminary design for what later became the RQ-4 Global Hawk reconnaissance unmanned aerial system. He received his Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering from California Polytechnic State University and his J.D. from the University of Oklahoma.
