Definition: Information Disclosure Statement, a document submitted to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) by an applicant to disclose relevant prior art or information known to the applicant that may affect the patentability of the invention.  Often, an IDS is used to meet an applicant’s and his/her counsel’s duty of candor.
