Managing Principal Kirby Drake Shares Patent Basics at The Shoulders of Giants Nonprofit
DALLAS – Klemchuk LLP, a leading intellectual property (IP), litigation, and business law firm, announces Managing Principal Kirby Drake gave a presentation on patent law basics at local nonprofit The Shoulders of Giants on July 29, 2017. Drake, who is a co-founder and board member of the organization, shared an overview of intellectual property and the parts of a patent. She also showed attendees how to search for patents and patent applications on the USPTO website, as well as other online sources such as Google Patents and FreePatentsOnline.
Since patents and intellectual property is not typically taught at high school, Drake stressed how the nonprofit is providing participants with valuable information to give them an advantage in their fields.
“Being familiar with patents will help students in their future educational and career endeavors,” Drake said. “They can use patents to understand what has been developed in the past and perhaps give them ideas for future development.”
