Patent Attorneys Present on Fashion Law at Texas State Bar Meeting

The paper explores the legal practices the fashion industry undertakes to protect its designs, focusing on how intellectual property helps preserve a brand’s individuality. It covers Converse’s multiple allegations of trademark infringement for its famous Chuck Taylor sneaker and Star Athletica’s recent Supreme Court win against Varsity Brands for copyright infringement of cheerleading uniforms designs. It also examines the benefits of design and utility patents for jewelry designers and fashion powerhouses, and how a technology giant is entering the fashion game.

Drake is experienced in many areas of intellectual property law and focuses primarily on intellectual property litigation and patent prosecution, addressing a broad range of technologies. Drake earned a J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law, and a Bachelor of Science degree cum laude, in chemistry from Duke University.

Johnson focuses primarily on patent prosecution and strategic patent portfolio management. Johnson earned her J.D. cum laude from Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University where she served as Business Editor of the Thurgood Marshall Law Review. She earned her B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University.
