DALLAS – Klemchuk LLP, a leading intellectual property (IP), technology, and business law firm, announces Kirby Drake, Managing Principal, participated as a speaker in the CRISPR (or How to Change Your Genes) presentation, sponsored by the Fort Worth Life Sciences Coalition on December 14, 2016.

The presentation examined Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeat (more commonly known as CRISPR) that allows for gene modification, which in turn may help to fight/prevent disease. Drake discussed the IP issues that may affect developers and users of CRISPR. She focused on the ongoing battle at the U.S. Patent Office over who was first to develop CRISPR and should be granted patent rights and what is at stake in the interference proceeding and beyond.

“Kirby’s profound knowledge of IP law is an asset to the event,” declared Darin M. Klemchuk, Managing Partner. “We are proud of her active involvement in local nonprofit events.”
